The Chaperone
$425.00
A boy loses sight of his guardian at the fair, and his larger-than-life imaginary friend stays close enough to keep him safe.
About the Work
The Chaperone follows a boy through the brief terror of losing sight of his guardian at a fair. The rides keep turning, balloons remain in hand and the surrounding spectacle suddenly becomes much larger than it was a moment before.
Beside him stands an enormous heron, his imaginary friend, keeping watch until the world becomes manageable again. The bird gives form to something childhood sometimes needs: protection large enough to meet a world that has become too large. When the person meant to keep you safe disappears from view, imagination stays close enough to take their place.
